Winchester model 1873 rifle and 44 - 40 caliber inscribed on left side plate in period script. “Presented to, John Bidwell, Rancho Chico, the next president of the United States of America, 1892.” 24 inch octagon barrel, full mag, crescent butt, #420309 B. The right butt stock has an engraved patch box and left side inlaid with two copper and one German silver inlays from an earlier rifle.  Good conditon overall with smooth brown patina and faint traces of blue mixed in. The stocks are good with minor imperfections, a stress crack show in the forend and there are a few chips near juncture frame. The action is sound and the bore is fair with some darkness that may clean. John Bidwell was a prominent California politician who did run for president but lost.
