Antiques Found Out West
Since retiring in Arizona, Diana and myself have searched out estate sales, garage sales and auctions all over Arizona and the west. Like John S Du Mont my collecting interest has traveled full circle back to where I started with “As found relics out of the attic, and the barn or off the ranch.” I rekindled this interest when I obtained an Indian wrapped and tacked single shot percussion shotgun. The gun was found in a barn located near Ash Fork about 60 miles northwest of Prescott, Arizona. The family named Graham were Arizona pioneer ranchers and their great grandfather found this gun in an Indian camp where Geromino was said to have hid in a rock outcropping which concealed a natural “canteen” where water gathered in about the year 1885. I bought the gun for $100 and was treated to a tour of the Indian camp area. It was truly fascinating and historic. I was hooked again and since I have bought every frontier relic gun, knife, axe, blanket or artifact that had “the look” or talked the language of the real frontier and the hero’s that went west.
Collectors who like condition might not like this section of our website but those who love history and can look farther than condition might enjoy and share the feeling of finding relics that were carried, used hard and saw genuine use.
