This rapier is overwhelming in the quality of its ornamentation and Renaissance design. The hilt is finely chiseled with figures and gold accents. The inside of the cup shows a pierced plate and every attention was paid to detail. The maker of this rapier is currently unknown and we would place this manufacturer in the mid 19th century. In our opinion it was made as a exhibition piece or on commission for a collector or a museum. There is no casting or short cuts taken by the maker and it is as fine a rapier as any of the Renaissance period in comparable quality of metal work. Priced fairly at $36,500.
