Indian Tacked and Copper Telegraph Wire Wrapped 16 Gauge Double Barrel Shotgun
Both Generals Crook and Gibbon were known to carry English shotguns on the frontier. The combination of the buckshot and ball in a double barrel was an awesome defense gun for fighting in the brush. This shotgun has had the barrels shortened to 27 inches and has mentioned is authentically tacked and wrapped in the Native American style. The barrel is marked fine London Damascus and the locks are signed beneath the wire wrap which we cannot read. The metal shows a brown patina finish and is good overall with a couple small dents in the left barrel. The locks work well and the action is tight upon the frame. The gun shows a side lever release and dates to the 1870's in our opinion. The tacks and copper wrap show a nice uncleaned patina. A great decorator that most likely captured in battle or in a late night raid upon a camp as this was a very expensive and hard gun to get on the frontier. Priced most fairly at $995.
