Magnificent French Wheelock from Louis the 13th Era

$175,000.00

Royal quality French wheelock from Louis the 13th era pictured in “Great Guns” by Merrill Lindsay and originally in the Spitzer and Heironymous collections. The gun is made by Hennequin of Metz circa about 1630 -1650. Fabulous steel and wire inlay that is very profuse and intricate. The condition is fine to excellent with minimal natural aging and no negative issues.

The quality, condition and rarity of this firearm achieves world class collectors status. A comparable French wheelock also from the Louis the 13th era recently sold at Rock Island Auction Co. for a total of $831,250.

In my expert opinion the steel inlay on this wheelock is superbly rare and more difficult to achieve than other soft metal forms of decoration. A provenance of over 100 years places this magnificent wheelock in two of the most important European arms collections. Mr Eric Vaule who was well respected worldwide for his knowledge of European arms stated to me that this French wheelock was the equal to any in private hands worldwide due to the unique quality of the steel inlay and its magnificent and delicate form.

Priced reasonably at $175,000.
