The lower left is marked primary sketch, Guardian of the Plains, Boys Life (Magazine). J.Imhof was born 1871 and died in 1955. This prominent artist spent most of his time painting between Albuquerque, New Mexico and Taos. He was influenced to paint by chance meeting Buffalo Bill Cody who may well be the subject of this painting featuring a frontiersman what appears to be a Henry rifle. Approximate size is 19 by 15.5 inches. Image is in very good condition with minor aging. Frame shows minor dings, mars, and scratches. The frame is probably the original being constructed of wood and gold gilded.
