Flintlock Kentucky signed J. Sheets with lock marked Calderwood (who contracted with the purveyor of public supplies, Trench Coxe for 60 pairs of flintlock pistols in 1808). The gun is a smooth bore “buck and ball style” with 40 inch barrel of medium weight and half round and half octagon shape of approximately 62 - 65 caliber. Attractive daisy finial on pierced patch box and trigger guard shows attractive American eagle holding shield that is nicely engraved. The escutcheon around single lock screw shows an engraved artillery piece. There is a stylish cheekpiece in flowing style terminating in incised scroll. Reconverted from percussion back to flint and stock refinished and restored.
