The subject portrays what appears to be an eighth to tenth calvary black buffalo soldier sliding downhill. Cold painted on bronze and very nicely detailed and displayed on rough stone base. Probably a Posthuma’s casting later in the 20th century. Carl Kauba was an Austrian artist whose works were highly regarded worldwide in the early 20th century. He never travelled to America and worked from illustrations by Remington and other publications available in Europe. The bronze measures 26 inches in height with approximately 1 ½ inch natural rough stone base.
