Yaqui Indian Relic Winchester 1892 Carbine
Pre 1898 four digit serial number 92 Winchester 44-40 caliber saddle ring carbine. This carbine was brought from Mexico by noted antique gun dealer Evy Morgan of Clarkston Washington in the 1970's. Evy and I were close friends and he kept this carbine along while due to the fact he bought it from a Yaqui Indian who scouted and worked for the Yuma penitentiary. Evy stated to me that he tracked many escaped gringos and that they were easier to pack on a horse after he shot them. I recently found this carbine in Illinois and immediately recognized it due to the leather butt plate and missing loading gate which was that way more than 50 years ago. The gentleman I purchased it from bought it from Evy in the 1990's at an Arizona show when Evy was looking for gas money. The carbine is in relic condition missing the loading gate and extractor as well as the metal butt plate probably taken for a hide scraper. Not operating or shootable and sold as a relic only.
